Also note that gnome-mplayer is also unable to play files due to same reason, 
it uses a -ass option in it's command by default.
The differene is if they are disabled then no -ass option is used, where as 
smplayer will insert a -noass option which is rejected
The -noass option is not rejected in a re-build
