At the time you were using a beta release of Hardy, and although Hardy is LTS, this are generally tested in the latest release, and if the problem is significant enough, then the fix may be backported and fixed for earlier versions, i.e. Hardy. You can download a LiveCD and use that for testing in most cases to avoid messing up a production system, it's just a case of downloading it, running it, and testing it. All versions after Hardy have the same version (0.7r1785-2ubuntu1).
