This is finally fixed in kernel 2.6.20 (Feisty)! However this kernel adds a new problem with suspend/resume on nx8220 and similar models: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/74877 that can be fixed with some kernel patching.
