For the time being, the option nomodeset should work in Lucid. Once
xserver-xorg-video-intel is upgraded from 2.9.1 to 2.10.0 (it will be
soon) it won't work anymore. So it is not a useful workaround, but as
long as it works it is good to have for troubleshooting purposes.

Yes, please open two bug reports. I don't know very much about loss-of-pointer 
problems (but I have seen it happen before). For the crash case, you need to 
describe it a bit more closely. For example we have two different problems, 
which is a freeze (GPU hang) which has some symptoms and a crash (segmentation 
fault) which has different symptoms. What kind of additional information we 
need depends on exactly what the problem is. The two are described at the
