Robert, the next time you try quiting Firefox, could you please start up a terminal and use the command 'top"? It will report on the status of the many processes your system is running. It would be interesting to find out if Firefox is idle or is using a lot of CPU cycles while it is hanging. (Note, press 'q' to exit from "top")
