Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu will completely freeze - mouse, screen, everything when you open
a folder containing a large amount of pdfs for a 1.2gb size for the
first time.

This is highly irritating and as far as I'm aware - should never happen.
There was no option to cancel any operations either.
