Ok, I've had a go at using these instructions to setup the modem on my laptop, which is an Intel Conexant modem.
I don't think that all the instructions from the wiki are in an appropriate state to go into the system help, because there are a number of areas which address Breezy/Dapper only, and a lot of unsupported drivers are flying around. Equally, it's clearly not going to be at all possible for a user without any kind of internet access to get it working without an alternative internet connection - the scanmodem tool itself and all the drivers need to be downloaded. For now, I think the best we can do is provide an introduction to the topic, how to find out the required driver with scanmodem and a pointer to useful online documentation about where to find the drivers. That is already included in the current dialup section of internet.xml. (preview - http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/C/internet/connect-to- internet.html#dialup) Any further detail is going to have to wait until drivers for modems are consistently provided with Ubuntu or at least the functionality for adding them semi-automatically is included. For now I'll close this bug. ** Changed in: ubuntu-doc (upstream) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released ** Changed in: kubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- Documentation should include greater detail about setting up difficult network hardware https://launchpad.net/bugs/42454 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
