You can disable the splash screen to work around this: cp /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xsplash.conf ~/xsplash.conf sudo rm /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xsplash.conf sudo touch /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xsplash.conf
