In Lucid with alacarte 0.12.4-1ubuntu, a menu item still disappears for almost 2 seconds when dragging it to the same or a different folder.
Also, dragging and dropping doesn't move the item but makes a copy (even when dropping to the same folder). When dropping to the same folder, this makes it look like the item was deleted, and after 2 seconds the user is surprised with two copies of the item. When dropping to another folder, the item disappears and the source folder is shown for 2 seconds. This feels like the user could continue working with that folder. Suddenly the destination folder is shown and the item is there. It's surprising that a copy of the item is has now re-appeared in the source folder as well.
