I can confirm that following the steps in comment 265 worked for me, with one slight difference:
I am using a Wind U123, so I downloaded the corresponding latest firmware for that model: firmware 10i http://msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1763 I also can reproduce the interesting brightness behavior of comment 269.
