I have a Thinkpad x301 (MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-844) and I had problems in
karmic to recognise audio CDs.

Looking for solutions, i found this thread on bugzilla:

The suggestion:
"If your BIOS setup allows it, change the IDE configuration from AHCI to IDE."
worked for me! :)

maybe the AHCI
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface) is not
fully supported yet...
