Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. The segfault itself may or may not be a bug in the libavcodec library, this issue can very well been caused by the hardware driver in the linux kernel or the vlc application that uses the driver to gather data and libavcodec to process that information further. Examining the information you have given us, this is not sufficient information to actually do somthing about this issue so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker.
