Hi, I found a solution that worked on my system Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty with gtk-2.0, python2.6 and libvte9:
I simply deleted the libvte.so files on my system ad did a reinstallation of the package libvte9! Now both, gdebi-gtk and gome-terminal as two affected applications, work again without the symbol lookup error problem.
