Hi Micah, I have tried to manually set the correct appications for firefox to use to open programs by going edit --> preferences --> applications.
Mp3s open in movie player. Despite changing the settings to "ask me" it keeps opening them in movie player. I will try to restart the computer to check if this rectifies this problems .doc files open in openoffice, but I had to set this manually. Previously they were not working. PDF files are now also working, but I had to set it manually. Previously they were not working. The work-around for solving the problem seems to be manually setting the applications, but the bugs is still there that firefox doesn't automatically retrieve these settings from gnome. Also, if there are multiple applications for an associated file-type they do not appear in the drop-down list box in the applications setting page. For example, I use Amarok to play MP3s, but the only available application to launch mp3s is movie player.
