I'm also having same problem with my Acer Aspire 110L, if you unplug the power the screen dims, but power manager doesn't detect it. Also if you plug in the power when battery is less than 100% then disconnect a few seconds later it now things the battery is fully charged!
None of the suggested work arounds work for me, just have to keep an eyes on the battery in /proc/acpi for time to time which is really tiresome. Another possibly related bug is power manager and acpi also thinks the laptop is using 750Watts when charging as reported in bug #451557.
