After I submitted the bug, I looked at the automatic attachments,
specifically the first one (mythbackend.log). Here is part of what is
there:

2009-12-28 10:35:27.691 UPnPautoconf() - Found one UPnP backend
2009-12-28 10:35:27.902 Testing network connectivity to '192.168.0.61'
2009-12-28 10:35:27.936 Closing DB connection named 'DBManager0'
2009-12-28 10:35:28.255 Connected to database 'mythconverg' at host:
192.168.0.61
2009-12-28 10:35:28.255 Closing DB connection named 'DBManager0'
2009-12-28 10:35:28.256 Deleting UPnP client...
2009-12-28 10:35:28.633 Connected to database 'mythconverg' at host:
192.168.0.61
2009-12-28 10:35:28.642 Using protocol version 50
2009-12-28 10:35:28.978 Time zone settings on the master backend differ from
those on this system.
2009-12-28 10:35:28.979 Detected time zone settings:
Master: Zone ID: 'America/Chicago', UTC Offset: '-21600', Current Time:
'2009-12-28T10:35:29'
Local: Zone ID: 'CST', UTC Offset: '-21600', Current Time:
'2009-12-28T10:35:28'

It looks like it found my master backend server but failed to connect
because the timezone names differed (even though they are effectively
the same timezone). I changed the timezone on my desktop system, did a
remove of the mythtv package (through the software center) and then
re-installed from the software center. There were no visible complaints
but the configuration process did not seem to be automatically started
at the end of the re-install.

On the other hand, when I started the mythtv frontend It seems to be
working fine so perhaps all of the needed configuration was actually
accomplished the first time through.

If I had any suggestion to make, it would be to supplement the help to
mention the location of the logs.

Thanks for your quick response on this.
