Hm, actually on second thought, installing from software center installs
the "Mythtv" package which Should have pulled in a MySQL server via pre-
depends.
$ apt-cache depends mythtv

Depends: mythtv-backend
|Depends: ntp
|Depends: <time-daemon>
chrony

Depends: <ntp-simple>

Can you please run these two commands and provide us the output:
dpkg -l | grep mysql
dpkg -l | grep mythtv
