Wow. Really WOW! Thanks so much! After changing this, and aside from a few minor bugs (e.g. when applying the crop effect, it sometimes likes to crash), Kdenlive is behaving fine and I can actually use it productively. I am running Kubuntu 9.10 and Kdenlive 0.7.5
