Thanks for the reply. gnome-mount -vbd /dev/sdb1 always succeeds in mounting the first non- encrypted partition

Exiting. the "Timeout for waiting for cleartext device... Exiting" warning also comes up in gnome-mounting encrypted partition /dev/sdb3. I hope this will help in resolving the problem.
