@Janos Zsitvai Thanks a lot for your help. Without this I would be left stranded with a very "public" laptop which entertains everybody in the room when I play some music! But I am a bit confused here.
I have a Vostro 1220, which also has a Conexant 5067 and hence the same problem. I installed your patched backport .deb from your website and tried. Nothing happened (still sound from speaker as well as headphone). My first question: is this not enough? Or is it because I need a different patch? Then I installed hda-verb and used the script hp-toggle.sh. Now it works, but I have a peculiar problem. If I run mplayer (or similar) successively on some music file from a terminal, the sound comes out consistently through the speaker or the headphone, depending on the last toggled state. But if I play some music file from the internet (using mplayer firefox plugin), every time I play a new file, the sound reverts back to the speaker, and I have to run hp-toggle.sh again to bring it back to the headphone. If I do not toggle, it still comes out of the speaker for the next link. One has to toggle every time the mplayer starts to have the sound in the headphone. I am wondering if I need to something more to get this fixed. The details of my system are as follows: $ uname -r 2.6.31-16-generic $ modinfo snd_hda_codec_conexant filename: /lib/modules/2.6.31-16-generic/updates/alsa/snd-hda-codec-conexant.ko description: Conexant HD-audio codec license: GPL alias: snd-hda-codec-id:14f15067 alias: snd-hda-codec-id:14f15066 alias: snd-hda-codec-id:14f15051 alias: snd-hda-codec-id:14f15047 alias: snd-hda-codec-id:14f15045 srcversion: A5AC94ADF38C7D4C2A7B824 depends: snd-hda-codec,snd vermagic: 2.6.31-16-generic SMP mod_unload modversions -- When headphones are plugged in, the speaker does not get muted automatically. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
