Thanks for the email. No longer have the IBM 600e so not a problem any more
(for me at least).
Cheers, Andy

Subject: [Bug 316372] Re: ibm 600e no sound and volume control blank

Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Are
you still experiencing the same issue in Xubuntu 9.04 or 9.10? If so,
could you take another look at the Wiki link that Chris provided, and
try to follow the steps in there? If you're having trouble with a
specific step, let us know and we'll try to talk you through it. Thanks
again!

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm new to xubuntu so this bug may already have been reported and/or
resolved (but I can't find a resolution). I have installed xubuntu Intrepid
8.10 on an IBM 600E and have two issues. The first is that there is no
sound, and the second is that the volume control icon (top right hand
corner) opens up a blank screen. If I move the mouse over the volume
control icon it shows 0%. I have found some information relating to this
problem (i.e. no sound) for Dapper and made the modifications to the files
as recommended - but still no sound (and the volume control is still blank).
The 600E seems to be a good (old) laptop and, in general, suited to xubuntu.
The lack of sound, whilst annoying, is not preventing me from using the
laptop. Is there a patch or an idiots guide to resolving this problem?
Thanks in advance.
