If you have Intel GM965 graphics then this could be xserver-xorg-video- intel driver bug, Ubuntu X developers, please confirm this bug or assign to another package. Btw, there is a post in Ubuntu forums about the same problem, look at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1287511
