The apport should be working, as it helped me to report bugs before, even this one I could report once before, but at the moment evolution only crashes immediately WITHOUT apport window opening.
I have a Ubuntu 09.10 with Gnome desktop environment, but there is NO file in the /var/crash directory. I checked it on several days (my system is up-to-date ...) after letting evolution crashing before.
