My bug description was a bit incorrect. Sorry about that. I do mean - no window borders (title, maximize, close,...) - window top left of screen - focus when mouse over the window (instead of clicking)
But the panel was there. (The only difference is the virtual desktop selector showing 2 desktops instead of 4.) I do select Xfce-session in gdm. (I got two of them, by the way.) I peeked into ~/.xsession-errors but should have copied it before rebooting twice, for now it is erased. Anyway I remember it saying the window manager was already launched.
