I am interested in your compiling SDL 1.2.14 from the tarball package. I downloaded the tarball from the SDL website, expanded it and compiled it (following the general instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/add-applications/C/install-file.html [https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/add-applications/C/install-file.html] ). However, I get a "Failed to initialize SDL: No available video device" when I try to use MLT. If you have the time, could you just go through the sequence of installing from the source tarball so that I can have the satisfaction of repeating your experiment?
