No, read the part about configuring PA to only adjust one mixer control. It's the control= parameter passed to module-alsa-s{ink,ource}.

" This is not what I see. My volume is shown at some percent x but is super loud. When I just "jiggle" the sound control it jumps to where it should be and is fine for the lifetime of the boot.
