Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm
I have installed Karmic on four machines. On two, it was a fresh installation; on another two, it was an upgrade from Intrepid. GDM works fine on the upgraded machines. On the fresh ones, I have been seeing weird behaviour from GDM. The name of the user that I created during installation does not appear. It just says ‘Other’ instead. However, it says the proper name in a tooltip if I hover over it, and if I click on it, it asks me for the password for that user and lets me log in. If I create several users, they all appear, but there is still an ‘Other’ which logs in the first user that I created. If I delete a user, they still appear in the list. Karmic seems to have removed the ability to configure GDM, so I don’t know what to do. I’m considering copying /etc/gdm/ from the computers that work to the computers that don’t. All machines are fully up to date.
