I own a 'Network Scanny' and had the same problem on Xubuntu 8.10. I followed this guide: http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=198434 I solved with the command: $ sudo chmod 777 /dev/parport0 Hopes this helps. Best regards, Paolo
