Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager
A recent Jaunty apt-get update broke my xorg driver, requiring me to apt-get install a package from a VT. But without gnome running, my wireless interfaces don't get set up, so I can't see the network. Even if I manually iwconfig eth0 essid "mynetwork", to my totally open and unencrypted wifi network, the interface never seems to pick it up. (This always worked before the era of network-manager). Being logged into GNOME shouldn't be a prerequisite for a working network.
