I have a similar bug filed somewhere. My Creative X-fi card works sometimes, but only sometimes if I snap it in and out of the computer while the computer is running. Then I can get one program working with it, usually. Then it stops working. I have Ubuntu Studio Lucid with all updates as of 4 Dec.
