I think there are a few items in play which is preventing this from working
saods9 pckage in Karmic is 4.0, and installs tcl/tk 8.4 (along with wish 8.4). Unfortunately, ds9 4.0 (And even the more recent 5.7) is written with tcl/tk 8.5. This is a false dependency.
