I had similar problem today, but I have installed kubuntu-desktop on my ubuntu, and I were using kwin when the bug happened. kwin suddenly started crashing, and restarting kdm didn't change anything. when I restarted the computer and logged in my gnome desktop, I got the above massages. I use kernel 2.6.31-14.48
