I agree with what you say, BUT, the current behavior is not very different from UAC in windows vista .. and can not easily be disabled .. For "an average user of linux" is not much trouble to change "x" file in "x" line with the parameter "x" .. but to the user coming from windows, is another thing. The current behavior is not "user friendly" At least should be provided with a way to set security levels and allow choice when the system must ask for a password.. seems absurd to me having to enter a password to change the processor performance politics..
