It is unlikely that Sun Java will be the direct dependency for Eclipse. Currently it depends on java2-runtime, which is provided by Sun Java, GCJ and maybe more. GCJ just happens to be installed per default, because it has less strict licensing (GCJ is in main, while Sun is in multiverse).
Downloading software using Eclipse update is always an option, however this is not what we wanted. There should be working eclipse-pydev package. If you would like, please take a look at the package mentioned above, if that fixes the problems. Any comments on that are appreciated.
