im having this same problem as well. i upgraded to 9.10 from 9.04 roughly 2 days after the release of 9.10 and did so through the update manager. everything worked absolutely fine for about a week and a half, untill 2 days ago, when all of a sudden it just locked up. hard reboot yielded a black screen, not even my bios screen would come up. another hard reboot yielded the bios screen but that froze halfway through loading. 3rd time got to the grub loader, which froze there. 4th time back to absolutely nothing. after doing this process over and over i finally got to the login screen, logged in, then it froze on me. after that, it worked fine for about 12 hours. after that, it would run for about 2.5 hours before locking up. now, if i just let it sit, and done do anything, it works fine. if i try to use the internet or any program, it locks up about 5 minutes after starting.
i dont know if this qualifies as the same bug you are all having, since i am able to use the pc for a short period of time, but, this is the only thread that is talking of total lockups, so i figured id post here. my laptop is an acer aspire 5680 with no upgrades. i have no idea what graphics card or chipsets are in it. though, this laptop is almost 4 years old, if that helps anyone. im pretty new to using ubuntu, so i dont know the terminal commands or how to use them yet, so, if anyone has any solutions to this problem, could you please post them in a new-user friendly version? any help at all is much appreciated, my computer is my lifeline, especially since im in college -- Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
