Public bug reported: The interface-mtu string in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf kills my network connection. If I don't edit that file removing the word interface-mtu on every ubuntu install I do, I can't surf the web. The connection stays on but it won't surf. My isp is fastweb, a very common isp in Italy. I tried with at least 3 different ubuntu laptops on this and other fastweb networks, the bug is always there since at least ubuntu 7.10.
So many people in Italy have trouble with that and have a awful experience with ubuntu because of something that could be so easily fixed. just google "interface-mtu fastweb" in google italia to have proof of that. Don't know why I can't find a bug report of this on launchpad, too many lazy people maybe. At least, if you don't want to fix this bug, PLEASE make sure that every dhcp3 update won't override the file without asking, like it does now. I have to edit the file everytime the update manager updates the file. This is really annoying and could descourage any non expert user from adopting ubuntu. I believe in linux and ubuntu, and speading it between all of my friends but bugs like this are a bit embarassing.. ** Affects: dhcp3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- interface-mtu kills my network connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/483657 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
