I have two old-ish HP nx6110 laptops without a built-in webcam that show similar symptoms when a uvcvideo (Xbox Live) webcam is left plugged in to the PCs' USB port at boot: basically the camera doesn't work and is not recognised by cheese, skype etc. Unplugging the camera from the laptop's USB port, reboot and plugging it in *after* the boot is complete resolves the problem. I suspect this bug (435352) is similar enough to cover my issue and I am eagerly awaiting a new kernel update to allow me to use my webcam without unplugging/replugging them. If you believe my bug is unrelated, please advise and I'll post a separate bug.
