I can also confirm the problem still exists in karmic, after previously thinking it was fixed. Watching streaming tv, the wireless froze up. Sudo service networking restart failed with an error "no such device" or similar. I did a clean install. My iPhone continued to work with the wireless no problems during this time.
After reboot, networking worked again. (in contrast now 3 months with no reboot on my iPhone!)
