Have the same problem here. I'm on a fresh install of Karmic (9.10), AMD64 version with all relevant upgrades as of today.
I can manually set up/tear down the connection using "$ sudo vpnc xxx" or "$ sudo vpnc-disconnect xxx" any time. However, it only works the first time I try to set up a VPN connection from network manager (through network-manager-vpnc). After that, it fails setting up the connection. It looks OK until it gets to the stage of receiving the first (Connect) reply, and just fails after that. VPN plugin state changed: 1 VPN plugin state changed: 3 VPN connection 'xxx' (Connect) reply received.
