There are a couple ways: 1) Use System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager to install "linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic" 2) Open Applications > Accessories > Terminal, and use: sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic
