@Luca, Alexander: I'm sending Nm and MM logs since about 3 months, so I'm also trying to help. I never asked them to hurry up or lamented about this bug. The only thing that bother me is that the bug is marked as fixed when it is not.

There is no problem for me to use a pon/poff script to connect with the modem (that is the only way I have to reach the web), but I'm thinking at the normal user that after upgrading to Karmic has lost his ability to connect to the net. Moreover a lot of apps (at least in Gnome) depends on NM, for example Evolution and Empathy. PPS.
