My first post:

"update-grub was not updating my menu.lst file. To test, I created an
empty menu.lst file and ran update- grub."

1. when upgrading from 9.04 -> 9.10 it doesn't changed my menu.lst.
2. trying to run update-grub the output says that it found all kernels
(including new from 9.10) and that it *updated successfully* my grub - plain
lie - it haven't changed anything.
3. *test* I deleted my menu.lst and ran update-grub -> ok, menu.lst created
with success and with contents correct.
4. *test* I deleted my menu.lst and touch it, so with an existing menu.lst but
empty I ran update-grub -> output ok, but the content added to my empty file
was only *comments* nothing related to kernels.

The real problem is that it will not update my menu.lst and I tried some
test cases.

ps.: mine menu.lst was slightly hand altered because some problems I was
having with framebuffer/splash. maybe update-grub will not update an
altered menu.lst, but In a major upgrade like this it must.
