On the T42 the fix did not work, setting the mask to /proc or /sys from within /etc/rc.local did not work. I have to set the mask after login by hand, then the osd works well. Using /proc is deprecated, try this instead
echo 0x00ffffff > /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/hotkey_mask But in /etc/rc.local nothing happens........
