I resolved my problem with the rebooting. @Aaron, I also have HD3200. If you still have the problem with Karmic see my post in this bug report (not to write everything here again). That resolved my problem. My post is towards the end, one of the latest ones.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/364156 To the Ubuntu team: I do not know what the procedures for reporting bugs are, and whether it is a bug at all, but it seems the driver that comes with Karmic is somehow conflicting with HD3200 (maybe other ATI cards/chips too). In my case it was rebooting my PC just before it should display the login screen. I installed EnvyNG package in text mode and it downloaded another driver called 8.660-0ubuntu4 and that worked straight away. So as far as I can tell with my limited experience, that would mean the driver coming with Ubuntu is problematic. Does a specific bug report has to be open? Or someone will look into this by reading this?
