Public bug reported: When the upgrade for Ubuntu 9.10 was offered, I thought I was expected to allow it to run, I am rather new at this stuff. It took all afternoon last Sunday, a week ago, and since then I have encountered several unfamiliar problems. The most disturbing is that the Rhythmbox no longer contains, in the side pane, the option "Unknown" which I was able to play my inserted CD's by clicking, once I had inserted one in the computer mechanism for that. At that time, the computer monitor would also display a small window telling me that it had noticed that I had inserted a CD and asking if I wished to use Rhythmbox to listen to it. I would then click "okay" and it would disappear that window and open Rhythmbox. At first I didn't know what to do, and it took some trial and error to figure out, but I found that if I clicked on "Unknown" the computer would oblige my wish to listen to the CD by listing all of the tracks and that then when I clicked on "Play" it would oblige me even further by doing so. I was very happy to discover how to do this, but now there is no item "Unknown" listed, and therefore, having tried everything I can find to click on, and to no avail, I am at my wits end, as I cannot listen to my CD's at all. HELP! please?
Apparently this involves firefox-3.5, and something about /var/log/dist- upgrade/. I tried to figure out what is wanted for information, but most of what I've read is beyond my vocabulary, computer-wise, which is limited still. I am trying, but much is assumed, and it is hard to figure out where to learn it from. Please try to help me get my CD's to play.
