I had this same thing happen to me. I've been using an upgraded 9.10 since release, but tonight I did a full re-install, and my wireless stopped working. b43 will activate, but doesn't work (wireless networks not shown in network manager applet). The first time I tried STA, it activated, disconnected my wired connection, and just as my wireless was starting to connect, my screen went black save for my pointer/mouse, and my system froze.
