Something that would be worth trying on your desktop machine once you have established that the 185.18.36 driver is stable in your environment, would be to put the new Nvidia driver on and then disable Compiz. This would give us an indication of whether the new driver is likely to be the sole problem or whether we have two separate problems here, one with (potentially) Compiz on your desktop machine and the other with the NVidia driver on your MythTV box. I want to see you going well first but then I want to get to the root cause of these problems so that good bug reports can be submitted upstream and others can benefit from our work.
