Not sure if this is the best place for this, but this is not fixed for kdm on released kubuntu 9.10. I've seen everything from just a straight blank screen to spew of:
localhost init: kdm main process ended, respawning localhost init: kdm respawning too fast, stopped to the system booting up as expected, aka exactly what this user has seen with gdm, I'm seeing with kdm now.
