I have recently upgraded my HP HDX 9120EA from 9.04 to 9.10 and am
seeing the same problem - following the instructions enables sound. I
will try removing the model number to see if it is just changing the
line jack mode that makes sound work.
Interestingly, I was running Gentoo until a few weeks ago and had
similar problems after a kernel upgrade, but never had the time to
identify the problem - I just gave up on sound, or used headphones
('cause they still worked).
