@Jeroen Massar #78: You wrote "the problem lies in your DSL/cable modem, not in Ubuntu". I'd like to make a few points.
1) No IPv6 slowdowns in Jaunty or Mint 7 (which both have IPv6 enabled) anywhere I've tried. Which "features" of the internet am I not using in Jaunty but am using in Karmic? 2) Serious slowdowns with Karmic at a local coffeehouse, my place of business and the airport where I have no control over their modems. 3) OpenDNS, etc. remove some features of Firefox such as "automatically" determining which site I'd like to go to when I type key words into the address bar. If I enter "ubuntu forums", Firefox will take me to http://ubuntuforums.org/. OpenDNS will not do that. 4) Bottom line is that this needs to be fixed/patched/whatever so that most anybody trying Ubuntu for the first time will have a good experience. Currently, for many, Ubuntu cannot provide such an experience. -- [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/417757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
